It's been 21 years since "The Matrix" first hit theaters.

The dystopian film, written and directed by sisters Lana Wachowski and Lilly Wachowski, breathed fresh life into film's sci-fi genre — introducing an entirely new type of fast-paced fight scene layered in addition to the iconic "bullet time" effect.

Since its release, "The Matrix" has continued to influence subsequent films such as "Kill Bill," "Inception," and "Watchmen." However, the movie's impact isn't limited to the film industry; "The Matrix" has also made its way into popular culture. Whether intentional or not, celebrities such as Bella Hadid, Kanye West, and Lady Gaga have all sported outfits that channel the film's all-black, sleek aesthetic.
